Save on 2004 Honda Odyssey Insurance Rates

Finding the lowest price insurance may seem to be challenging for vehicle owners that are not comfortable with quoting and comparing rates and buying insurance over the internet. With dozens of insurers available, how are vehicle owners able to effectively compare every possible option in order to find the cheapest price possible?

Insurance quotes comparison

Comparing insurance rates can be exhausting if you don’t understand the fastest way to get free quotes. You could waste time driving to local insurance agents in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to maximize your effort.

Many of the larger companies participate in an industry program where prospective buyers submit their information once, and each participating company returns a competitive quote. This saves time by eliminating repetitive form submissions to every company.

The only downside to doing it this way is that you can’t choose the insurers to get quotes from. So if you want to choose individual companies to receive pricing from, we have a page of the cheapest insurance companies in your area. Click to view list.

Whichever way you use, do your best to enter apples-to-apples coverage limits and deductibles for every quote you compare. If your comparisons have mixed coverages you will not be able to determine the lowest rate for your Honda Odyssey. Having just a slight variation in coverage limits could mean much higher rates. And when price shopping your coverage, having more price comparisons increases your odds of finding the best rates.

Auto insurance quotes and discounts

Auto insurance companies do not advertise every disount available in a way that’s easy to find, so we researched a few of the more common and the more hidden discounts you could be receiving when you buy car insurance online.

  • Claim Free – Insureds who avoid accidents and claims can save substantially as opposed to drivers with a long claim history.
  • Distant Student Discount – College-age children who live away from home to go to college and won’t have access to an insured vehicle can be insured at a reduced rate.
  • Full Payment Discount – By paying your policy upfront as opposed to paying monthly you may have a lower total premium amount.
  • Military Rewards – Having an actively deployed family member could trigger a small discount.
  • Air Bag Discount – Vehicles equipped with air bags or motorized seat belts may get savings of 20 to 30 percent.
  • Low Mileage Discounts – Low mileage vehicles could be rewarded with lower prices on the low mileage vehicles.

One thing to note about discounts is that some credits don’t apply the the whole policy. Most only reduce the price of certain insurance coverages like comp or med pay. Despite the appearance that all the discounts add up to a free policy, nobody gets a free ride.

Situations that may require an agent’s advice

When buying coverage, there isn’t really a perfect coverage plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs.

For instance, these questions could help you determine if your insurance needs may require specific advice.

  • Does coverage extend to Mexico or Canada?
  • Am I covered if I drive in a foreign country?
  • How can I get my company to pay me more for my totalled car?
  • Does having multiple vehicles earn me a discount?
  • What is medical payments coverage?
  • Is my babysitter covered when using my vehicle?
  • What is high-risk coverage and where do I buy it?
  • Am I covered by my employer’s commercial auto policy when driving my personal car for business?
  • Who is covered by my policy?
  • Should I rate my 2004 Honda Odyssey as pleasure use or commute?

If you can’t answer these questions but you know they apply to you, you may need to chat with an insurance agent. If you don’t have a local agent, simply complete this short form.

Car insurance policy specifics

Understanding the coverages of car insurance can help you determine the best coverages for your vehicles. Policy terminology can be confusing and nobody wants to actually read their policy.

Liability auto insurance – Liability insurance will cover damage or injury you incur to other people or property in an accident. It protects YOU against other people’s claims. Liability doesn’t cover damage to your own property or vehicle.

Liability coverage has three limits: per person bodily injury, per accident bodily injury, and a property damage limit. As an example, you may have policy limits of 100/300/100 which means a $100,000 limit per person for injuries, $300,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000.

Liability coverage protects against things like repair bills for other people’s vehicles, bail bonds, legal defense fees and medical expenses. How much coverage you buy is a decision to put some thought into, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase as much as you can afford.

Medical costs insurance – Med pay and PIP coverage pay for short-term medical expenses for things like rehabilitation expenses, ambulance fees and X-ray expenses. The coverages can be used in conjunction with a health insurance plan or if there is no health insurance coverage. Coverage applies to you and your occupants as well as being hit by a car walking across the street. Personal injury protection coverage is not universally available but it provides additional coverages not offered by medical payments coverage

Comprehensive or Other Than Collision – This coverage will pay to fix damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first must pay your deductible and the remainder of the damage will be paid by comprehensive coverage.

Comprehensive can pay for things such as hitting a deer, damage from a tornado or hurricane, vandalism, hitting a bird and damage from flooding. The most a car insurance company will pay at claim time is the actual cash value, so if the vehicle’s value is low it’s probably time to drop comprehensive insurance.

Collision coverage – This coverage will pay to fix damage to your Odyssey from colliding with another car or object. You have to pay a deductible and the rest of the damage will be paid by collision coverage.

Collision coverage protects against claims such as driving through your garage door, damaging your car on a curb, crashing into a building and scraping a guard rail. This coverage can be expensive, so analyze the benefit of dropping coverage from lower value vehicles. You can also raise the deductible in order to get cheaper collision rates.

UM/UIM Coverage – Uninsured or Underinsured Motorist coverage provides protection when other motorists either have no liability insurance or not enough. Covered losses include medical payments for you and your occupants as well as your vehicle’s damage.

Since a lot of drivers only carry the minimum required liability limits, their liability coverage can quickly be exhausted. This is the reason having UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked.
