Are you a victim of high-priced insurance? You’re in good company because many drivers have buyer’s remorse.

With vehicle owners having so many choices of insurance companies, it’s difficult to locate the lowest cost company.

Consumers should take time to quote other rates before your policy renews because prices change frequently. Just because you had the lowest rates on A4 insurance a couple years back other companies may now be cheaper. Forget anything you know (or think you know) about insurance because I’m going to teach you the fastest and easiest way to lower your annual insurance bill.

Finding auto insurance

Performing a rate comparison is a ton of work if you don’t know the best way to get rate quotes. You could waste a few hours driving to insurance companies in your area, or you can utilize online quoting to get rate comparisons in just a few minutes.

Most major companies participate in an industry program that enables customers to only type in their quote data once, and at least one company returns a competitive quote based on the submitted data. This saves time by eliminating quotation requests for each company.

The only drawback to using this type of system is you don’t know exactly which companies you want to price. If you would rather choose from a list of companies to compare, we have assembled a list of low cost auto insurance companies in your area. View list of insurance companies.

Compare rates however you want, just make sure you are using nearly identical coverage data with each company. If you compare higher or lower deductibles then you won’t be able to make a fair rate comparison. Even a minor difference in insurance coverages or limits can result in a big premium difference. It’s important to know that comparing more company’s prices provides better odds of finding a better price. Not every company allows you to get price estimates online, so you should also compare price quotes from them as well.

Take advantage of every auto insurance discount

Car insurance companies don’t necessarily list every disount available very well, so we took the time to find a few of the more well known and the harder-to-find savings tricks you should be using when you buy insurance online.

  • Discount for Multiple Policies – If you have multiple policies with one company you could get a discount of up to 20% off your total premium.
  • Anti-lock Brake Discount – Cars, trucks, and SUVs with anti-lock braking systems are safer to drive and earn discounts up to 10%.
  • Discount for Life Insurance – If the company offers life insurance, you could get a lower premium rate if you buy some life insurance too.
  • Service Members Pay Less – Having a family member in the military could be rewarded with lower premium rates.
  • Cautious Driver Discount – Accident-free drivers can save up to 40% or more on their insurance quote on A4 insurance than drivers with accidents.
  • Online Discount – Some auto insurance companies will give you a small discount for completing your application online.
  • Membership in Organizations – Joining qualifying clubs or civic groups is a simple method to lower premiums on your policy.
  • Full Payment Discount – By paying your policy upfront instead of monthly or quarterly installments you may have a lower total premium amount.
  • Buy New and Save – Buying a new car instead of a used car may earn a small discount because new vehicles keep occupants safer.

Don’t be shocked that some credits don’t apply the the whole policy. Most only cut individual premiums such as liability and collision coverage. So when it seems like you could get a free auto insurance policy, nobody gets a free ride.

A few companies that may offer many of the previously listed discounts include:

If you want inexpensive insurance quotes, ask all the companies how you can save money. Savings might not be available to policyholders in your state. If you would like to see a list of auto insurance companies that offer some of these discounts, click here.

How to know if you need help

When it comes to buying proper insurance coverage, there really is not a “perfect” insurance plan. Coverage needs to be tailored to your specific needs and a cookie cutter policy won’t apply. For instance, these questions can aid in determining if your insurance needs will benefit from professional help.

  • When do I need to add a new car to my policy?
  • Is there coverage for injuries to my pets?
  • When should I buy a commercial auto policy?
  • Am I covered if I hit my neighbor’s mailbox?
  • Should I sign the liability waiver when renting a car?
  • Is a blown tire covered by insurance?
  • I don’t drive much so do I pay less?
  • Can I afford to buy a different vehicle if my 2002 Audi A4 is totaled?

If it’s difficult to answer those questions, you might consider talking to a licensed agent. To find an agent in your area, take a second and complete this form or you can also visit this page to select a carrier

Parts of your insurance policy

Learning about specific coverages of insurance can be of help when determining which coverages you need and proper limits and deductibles. The terms used in a policy can be ambiguous and coverage can change by endorsement. Shown next are the normal coverages found on the average insurance policy.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM/UIM)

This provides protection from other drivers when they do not carry enough liability coverage. This coverage pays for injuries sustained by your vehicle’s occupants as well as damage to your Audi A4.

Because many people have only the minimum liability required by law, it only takes a small accident to exceed their coverage. So UM/UIM coverage should not be overlooked. Most of the time these coverages do not exceed the liability coverage limits.

Comprehensive insurance

Comprehensive insurance pays for damage from a wide range of events other than collision. You first have to pay a deductible then your comprehensive coverage will pay.

Comprehensive coverage pays for things like a broken windshield, falling objects, hitting a bird, hitting a deer and damage from flooding. The maximum payout you’ll receive from a claim is the cash value of the vehicle, so if your deductible is as high as the vehicle’s value it’s not worth carrying full coverage.

Med pay and Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

Medical payments and Personal Injury Protection insurance reimburse you for bills for EMT expenses, nursing services, X-ray expenses and doctor visits. The coverages can be used to fill the gap from your health insurance policy or if you do not have health coverage. It covers all vehicle occupants and also covers any family member struck as a pedestrian. PIP is not available in all states and may carry a deductible

Liability auto insurance

This protects you from damage or injury you incur to people or other property in an accident. Split limit liability has three limits of coverage: bodily injury per person, bodily injury per accident and property damage. You commonly see policy limits of 100/300/100 that means you have $100,000 bodily injury coverage, $300,000 for the entire accident, and property damage coverage for $100,000. Alternatively, you may have a combined limit which limits claims to one amount and claims can be made without the split limit restrictions.

Liability coverage pays for claims like attorney fees, repair bills for other people’s vehicles, medical expenses and medical services. How much liability should you purchase? That is up to you, but it’s cheap coverage so purchase higher limits if possible.

Auto collision coverage

This coverage will pay to fix damage to your A4 resulting from colliding with another car or object. You first must pay a deductible then the remaining damage will be paid by your insurance company.

Collision can pay for things such as colliding with another moving vehicle, sustaining damage from a pot hole, damaging your car on a curb, hitting a parking meter and backing into a parked car. Paying for collision coverage can be pricey, so consider dropping it from vehicles that are older. It’s also possible to bump up the deductible to bring the cost down.

More comparisons equals lower rates

Lower-priced auto insurance is possible both online as well as from insurance agents, so you need to shop insurance with both in order to have the best chance of saving money. There are still a few companies who may not offer rate quotes online and these smaller providers sell through independent insurance agencies.

When getting insurance quotes online, you should never reduce coverage to reduce premium. In too many instances, an insured dropped uninsured motorist or liability limits only to discover later they didn’t have enough coverage. The aim is to get the best coverage possible at the best cost.
